Meet Our Sponsor
The purpose for which the Metro Christian Centre exists, indeed for which the Christian Church exists, is to introduce you to God, our Sponsor or Creator. Jesus preferred to speak of him as our Father; the one who gave us life and provides for us that we might enjoy life at its best. 2 Peter 1:3-4 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvellous glory and excellence. New Living Translation God created the world and everything in it. All its intelligent design, its intricate detail and ingenious differences sprang from his creative mind and purpose. Plant, animal, avian, marine and human life in all its forms and varying means of reproduction; texture, shape, feel, fragrance in all its multi-forms; colour and hue, sound and harmony, weather and seasons, mountains and plains, seas, lakes, rivers and streams, forests and fields — what a glorious world we live in, and all designed to function as he intended as the architect and manufacturer. To put it another way, he rules the world because it belongs to him. He’s the king, the only king of it, and his wisdom and will expressed through what he does is always perfect and for the benefit of his creation. God also created us, modelling human beings like himself in many ways, and giving them the responsibility of looking after the world for him, to care for and cultivate it and express their creativeness in and with it and enjoy in relationship with him its amazing beauty and abundant bounty. They were, of course, but stewards of the world since God remained its sovereign and owner. They were responsible and accountable to rule and run the world in line with its divine design and purpose. Humanity was thus endowed with the privilege of friendship and partnership with God, and expected to honour God’s authority as the architect of the world and comply with his commands for the world’s welfare. One might have thought this should not pose any problem. It sounds simple enough and quite splendid. God creating a world and giving the people he created in it the ability of discerning his design and discovering all its amazing potential under his authority or loving rule, to the blessing and benefit of the world, themselves and God. What could be more wonderful? But we all know that it isn’t like this — something has gone very wrong with the world and with us too. |
